Sefa Ulukan Exhibition, Adana, Turkey

I was born in 1960 in Adana, southern coast of Turkey. At the moment I’m working as a doctor in an International Research-Treatment Project.

At the age of 18 I founded a photoclub in Adana. I was its board member and president for several times, and also an active president of Amateur Artists' Club named FOTOGRAFYA. I was a board member and Viсe President of "Photographic Arts Federation of Turkey" responsible for foreign relations.

My photographs have been exhibited in national and international exhibitions. In 1986 I became a member of FIAP and got the AFIAP honor.

In 2005 my latest work won the first prize in Arad International Biennale-Romania. It’s difficult to name it’s theme with only one word as it represents life, death and beauty. It was made using a unique technique: blending X-ray images of human body with digital photographs.

I’m also a jury member in national and international photo contests, teach basic and digital photography and run Sefa Ulukan Workshop. I work on projects, which are being developed to represent different cultures, cities and people of countries I have visited: Cuba, Hungary, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Romania, etc.

I have a Workshop consisting of a group of photographers working together, regularly meeting to discuss photography and to plan future projects. It’s heart is filled by a spirit of mutual enthusiasm and understanding, support. It facilitates sharing information about the art of photography and educating new passionate photographers. Consequently, members of Sefa Ulukan Atelier develop new photographic projects, work at them either individually or as a team.

I’m also an owner of FOTOGRAFYA – an Amateur Artists Club in Adana, founded in 1998. It’s a cozy cafe/restaurant that is a popular meeting place to relax, listen to live music, and be drawn into lively discussions about art. On the third floor of FOTOGRAFYA house one can visit an art gallery for all types of art exhibitions, but with a special emphasis on photography. Last year several famous local and foreign artists came to this well-known and frequently visited gallery with their exhibitions. Besides, we have three rooms for teaching photography, literature, and painting.
